Life can be tough sometimes. You bumble along from one place to another, from one task to another, trying to keep all the plates spinning so they don’t crash down around you.
But what happens when they do? What happens when overwhelm strikes?
This was me not too long ago!
I got myself into a position where, quite simply, I was doing too much. I was trying to spin too many plates and felt like I was constantly running around trying to stop them from smashing, not really achieving much in the process.
This is when I had to stop. I had to step back from the situation and take time out. I had completely burnt myself out and couldn’t carry on anymore.
If I’m honest I felt like a failure; I should be able to juggle as many plates as necessary to achieve my goal but I couldn’t do it, I did not have the super power.
But really I did have the super power, I had the super power to realise that change was needed. I realised that I needed to take a step back, unleash my inner warrior and fight for my dream life. To do that, I needed to take myself right back to the beginning of my journey.
I created a vision board based on my original dream, the one I created at the beginning of lockdown. The one I created before circumstances and situations got in the way and clouded my judgement.
I printed it off and put it in a frame by my bed, I downloaded a copy to use as wallpaper on all of my devices and I printed a copy to stick inside my journal.
It’s so easy to go off track, to be so intent on achieving success and living your dream life that you lose sight of the dream itself. You juggle so many plates in the hope that you will reach your dream life quicker but it doesn’t really work that way. The plates come smashing down around you and it delays the end goal, but it’s all part of the journey.
I could say that taking on too much and burning myself out was a massive mistake but how can it be?
I may have strayed away from my vision and taken myself in a different direction but everything happens for a reason. That path enabled me to gain friendships I wouldn’t otherwise have, it enabled me to learn skills that can be applied to other areas of my life. It have me more confidence to step outside of my comfort zone and explore me as a person. It also gave me valuable tools to really look after myself, including the realisation that everybody needs to take time out for themselves. How can that be a bad thing?
So next time overwhelm strikes, learn a lesson from it. Take a step back and refocus; remember the goals you set and the vision of your dream life. Create a vision board and pop it somewhere you can see it easily ( I used Canva for mine) How does life now look compared to your dream life? What steps do you need to take to get back on track? What doesn’t serve you well?
Remember everything happens for a reason; trust your journey, learn from it and live your dream life.
